Integrated by InfoStream HostInput, print jobs from a mainframe are handled with the same ease and flexibility as those from the office environment. It is used , when users at Non Windows workplaces wish to send PostScript print jobs to the PrintManager. These can be Linux, Unix or even other workstations.

In Windows, user defined information ( name , phone number cost center etc. ) and printing information ( number of copies , double sided , stapling etc.) are created by the JobTicket and stored in the so called “KDK “ files. This file is then sent to the PrintManager .
On Non Windows Computers , i.e UNIX or LINUX , JobTicket can not be installed, as it is , like the PrintManager a pure Windows program. On Non Windows Computers, PostScript files can be created, but user defined information and printing options cannot be sent together with the real printing job. Therefore directories or files are set up on central Computers with Unix – derivatives as the operating system. These directories are accessed by the Windows computer on which the PrintManager is running. This can be reached by “ Samba “ for example.
The HostInput Control periodically checks all defined “Queues” for incoming PostScript printing jobs. The PostScript printing jobs can be created by any application and put into these “Queues”. If the HostInput Control recognizes a ready – made printing job , it establishes name and number of pages of the document for the PostScript file.
The print files are then stored under the real name, supplied with a queue defined control file (KDK data), in the PrintManager HostInput print input directory. Each “Queue” can be supplied with print options. The incoming print files are passed on to the PrintManager with the fixed print options.
After the successful storage in the PrintManager HostInput print income directory, the printing order will be deleted from the “Queue”. When all printing orders of a “Queue” are worked out, the next “Queue” is checked about printing orders.

As soon as no unambiguous, unique file name can be created, InfoStream Port Monitor must be used. InfoStream Port Monitor doesn't work by directories, but by a Windows printer driver. The InfoStream PortMonitor creates output files names as the actual document name plus a unique number to avoid print files to be overwritten by each other. The new PortMonitor must not be installed if there is no need for it. It is recommended if the customer is using applications that create more then one output file at once like MS-Excel.
